ELEVATING COMMON MATERIALS
Barcelona-based designer Elisa Padrón is introducing her weaving project titled "Elevating Common Materials."This collection features handwoven wall hangings that highlight the beauty of vegetal materials from the Canary Islands.
These unique pieces are proudly crafted between the Canary Islands and Barcelona, with collaborations spanning worldwide. Each wall hanging is one-of-a-kind, showcasing the pride in the manual crafting process. Our inspiration stems from the natural elements around us, and we strongly believe that reclaimed materials have the potential to be transformed into high-end products.
LOCALLY SELF-PRODUCED WITH CARE
Every single piece is handwoven by Elisa in her Barcelona studio. We take great care in selecting local materials and suppliers that share our principles. During production, each wall hanging undergoes five specialized traditional processes: spinning, warping, setting the loom, weaving, and finishing.
HUMBLE MATERIALS
We are confident that reclaimed materials can be transformed into exceptional high-end products. The four base materials serve as the foundation for our four woven collections.
wool
A timeless favorite for weaving, wool ages gracefully. It is often used in its natural, undyed state and has a soft, matte texture. Black accents add modernity and rhythm.
banana
After the banana fruit ripens, the tree is cut down. The trunk (called “rolo”) is then sun-dried, hand-carved into thin layers, moisturized, twisted, and spun into fibers.
dragon-tree leaves
Fallen leaves from ancient trees on the Canary Islands, revered by indigenous people as sacred, are woven into cords using a process that is a hybrid between weaving and basketry.
philodendron leaves
Endemic to tropical rainforests, this material has a clay-copper hue. It is flexible and bulky, and requires gathering, drying, and re-moistening, as well as hand-twisting, before being woven.
